What Are Dental Implants?

Dental Implant Placement
The traditional procedure for dental implant treatment is comprised of four phases. The first phase involves placement of the dental implants at our Santa Monica practice. Under local anesthesia and light sedation, the artificial root is implanted in the jawbone and in most cases is covered by the gums for three to six months. During this time, the implant root fuses with the jawbone. You will be given a temporary restoration to wear, and you may maintain normal oral functions. The second phase of a dental implant procedure involves uncovering the implants to ensure that they are firmly in place. This procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia. Then, a prosthetic component, called an “abutment,” is connected to the implant. In the third phase, the final implant restoration is completed, which usually takes four to eight weeks. The fourth phase involves an individualized follow-up and maintenance program for your gums, bone, and dental implants. In most cases, you will be asked to visit our Santa Monica practice every three months for an evaluation and continuing care of both the implants and the restorations.
CT Guided Implant Placement and Restoration
CT technology is used for virtual treatment planning, fabricating surgical guides and provisional or definitive restorations. The computer generated surgical guide allows for the precise implant placement using an atraumatic flapless surgical protocol performing minimal invasive procedures which reduces surgical time and patient post-op discomfort. Patients immediately receive an aesthetic, functional, pre-fabricated implant-supported restoration on the same day. The treatment goals can be accomplished accurately, safely, comfortably, and with consistent results.
Immediate Dental Implant Placement
Dr. Wang's practice also offers immediate placement of dental implants for those who have adequate bone health. In immediate implant placement, Dr. Wang atraumatically removes the non-restorable tooth and immediately replaces it with the implant. The gums and bone simultaneously heal, preserving the architecture of hard and soft tissues in order to achieve optimal healing results.
Teeth in a Day
For some patients with adequate bone health, Dr. Wang’s practice also provides immediate-load implant placements to restore function to teeth in a single visit. When providing “same-day teeth” to patients throughout the Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Beverly Hills areas, as well as patients from all over the world, Dr. Wang places the implant, attaches the abutment, and secures the provisional crown all in the same office visit.
